Rooted in Montessori Education
Montessori secondary programs make a lasting impression on every student they touch. Valor Montessori proudly follows the legacy envisioned by Maria Montessori and brought to life by Montessori institutions around the world.
“My name is Donte Johnson, and I am a Hamilton County Municipal Court Judge in Cincinnati, OH. I spent pre-K through 12th grade in Montessori schools, first at Sands Montessori Elementary School then at Clark Montessori Jr. and Sr. High School. I attended Howard University and the University of Cincinnati, College of Law.
While at Clark, I was required to participate in eight, two-week intensive field studies (Intersessions). The most impactful Intersession for me was the Civil Rights Tour. Going on the Civil Rights Tour and being exposed to Historically Black Colleges and the roles their student’s played in the Civil Rights Movement made me want to attend an HBCU and become a public servant. I chose to become an attorney and then a judge so I could fight to ensure justice for all similarly to the way Civil Rights leaders of the past fought for equality. I would not be who I am today without the hands-on experiences I received as a part of my Montessori education.”

I thank my Montessori education for making me a lifelong scholar and a voracious learner, which aids me greatly in college and life.

My Montessori roots have brought me so far in my life. From knowing how to do laundry and clean my dorm during college, to being able to work in groups as the leader and the follower, to knowing how to manage my time, it can all be traced back to my Montessori Education. I had educational experiences that centered my learning around its impacts on my life, not just taking a test. I am continually thankful for the Field Studies that took me beyond the classroom and teachers who cared about me as a whole person, not just a student. While I don’t know where I would be otherwise, I do know that my Montessori Education has helped me become the empathetic, responsible, problem-solving adult I am today.”

“What made my Montessori high school unique is its flexibility to teach, guide, and even nurture its students. The Montessori approach of learning focuses on the student’s abilities of what they are good at academically while, at the same time, focusing on areas where they grapple with, to improve on. Yet, it does it in a way where it's not too rigid, as your other typical schools in the public sphere tend to be. In addition to the hard academic work, there were things such as physical exercises, class trips, and explore week, where students have time to learn whatever they might find intriguing. Furthermore, the memories one will make as a student will be priceless. The friends, the style of learning and the class trips are moments I will always cherish to this day. I thank my Montessori education for making me a lifelong scholar and a voracious learner, which aids me greatly in college and life.”
